The Tax Consultant is responsible for advising tax planning and compliance activities, researching and evaluating alternative tax positions, and collaborating with external partners. You will ensure accurate and timely tax filings and monitor and communicate tax law changes with implications to Williams. The ability to solve unique and sophisticated problems with broad impact on the business and seek tax alternatives that are consistent with operational goals and our tax risk guidelines are keys to success!

Tax Consultant - Planning

Day in the Life:

In your work as a Tax Consultant on the tax planning team, you will collaborate with others to plan, structure, evaluate and recommend opportunities to senior leaders. Your role will include:

  • Documenting and providing adequate guidance regarding any tax advice rendered to allow proper reporting of the transactions
  • Assisting in supporting tax advice in subsequent audits
  • Monitoring proposed tax legislation and regulation with applicability to Williams
  • Providing tax research support to other tax department groups, including analysis of potential FIN48 positions

Responsibilities/Expectations:

  • Contributes to the development of tax strategies to help minimize tax burden
  • Interprets and applies sophisticated tax law and regulations
  • Ensures efficient and accurate tax return filings
  • Communicates the impact of tax positions to the cash flow and financial earnings
  • Leads and supports tax planning projects
  • Other duties assigned

Education/Years of Experience:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; a minimum of six (6) years' experience in tax planning, compliance and research
  • Preferred: Master's degree; a minimum of ten (10) years' experience in tax planning, compliance and research; CPA, LLM or JD

Other Requirements:

  • Demonstrates strong written and oral communications skills
  • Demonstrates strong organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority
  • Ability to analyze data and translate into meaningful information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and PC skills
  • Knowledge of tax compliance and accounting practices
