The Position:
We are looking for a Tax Manager to work as part of the multi-disciplinary team. This role with work directly in our Operations team to lead Research and Development (R&D) tax credit studies with a team of professionals with tax, engineering or project management background.
Your experience with managing R&D studies will enable you to mentor your team and provide context to training opportunities to more junior team members, both formally and informally through internal review of work product. Principal Responsibilities:

Leading Client interviews and discussions, assessing the applicability of R&D tax credit

Assessing qualifying nature of activities and expenses
-
Determining any limitations in utilization or legislation
-
Performing technical research at federal and state levels
-
Developing knowledge of R&D applications by industry
-
Assist in and conduct initial interviews with Client to understand operations and R&D applications of the company and to identify Qualifying Research Activities

Preparation of accurate credit calculations, including data gathering, development of calculation templates, and preparation of the related tax forms, at the federal and state level for multiple clients simultaneously in accordance with deadlines as required

Conduct in-depth interviews with Client personnel to gain high-level understanding of qualifying activities and process of experimentation utilized by technical staff

Perform audit support for clients as necessary, including preparation of schedules, drafting responses to IRS inquiries, participating in meetings with IRS agents to support R&D credits claimed, and other audit support as required

Develop and sustain excellent client relationships to ensure timely reception of supporting data and perform regular status updates as the study progresses toward completion in accordance with project deadlines

Resolves conflicts and provide solutions to customers in a timely manner

Builds client relationships, maintains smooth working relationship with clients

Effectively communicates all technical material to clients, verbally and in writing

Appropriately manages risk and ensures quality control procedures are being executed

In addition, performing engagement management activities including billing analysis, clearly communicate work plan and project objectives to project team
EDUCATION:
-
Prior experience working on Research Tax Credit engagements
-
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a STEM discipline

Advanced Degree: MA/MS, JD or LLM, Licensed Certified Public Accountant (or in the process of pursuing)
EXPERIENCE:
-
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Research Tax Credit consulting services

Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving capabilities

High proficiency in spreadsheets

Strong writing skills

Ability to simultaneously work on several projects and effectively manage deadlines

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Detail-oriented and possess strong organizations skills to excel in a deadline-driven environment

High motivation to learn and grown

Ability to deliver excellent customer experience, including excellent technical written and oral communication skills
